flowers on long stalks growing on protrude from the trunk of the tree ( Cauliflory ). These stalks grows in clusters on the trunk. When in bloom the whole trunk appears red and awesome sight to witness. The tree bears fruit and it hangs from the trunk of the tree.They are tasteless too. Monkeys , lion tailedMacaque’s, feed on them. Local tribe called kanni visit forests to extract herbs too collect them. These flowers bloom during January and February. In Kannada the flower is known as Kolikuki. Naturalists say that there are more than 40 species of flowering trees like this in Indian subcontinent and are also found in the dense forests of Southeast Asia.
